300 – Rock of Ages

1
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Cleanse me from its guilt and power.

2
Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.

3
When my pilgrimage I close;
Victor o’er the last of foes,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
And behold Thee on Thy throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

There is something about that rock. When I was a young girl in St. Lucia, I use to love the beach. I collected shells and some sea creatures. I remembered there was one little creature that would stuck itself to the rock. That little hard shell creature or whatever it is knew it had an anchor on that rock. I tried so hard to get it off that rock, but I couldn't . I have learn a lesson from this little creature. Sticking to Christ the rock no one can move me. This is includes the devil.

Double cure…water and blood= spirit and life= “My words are spirit and they are life” Jesus said in John!

There is another verse: Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to your name I cling.Naked come to Thee for dress, helpless look to Thee for Grace,Foul I to the fountain fly,Wash me Saviour or I die.

3rd verse Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to thy cross I cling. Naked come to thee for dress, helpless look to thee for grace, foul I to thy fountain fly, wash me Saviour or I die.

I agree with Rene Bass, I wish the SDA hymnal had the 3rd verse starting with, “Nothing in my hand I bring…” Such a powerful verse
