1
Jesus, the very thought of thee
with sweetness fills the breast;
but sweeter far thy face to see,
and in thy presence rest.
2
No voice can sing, no heart can frame,
Nor can the memory find
A sweeter sound than Jesus’ name,
The Savior of mankind.
3
O hope of every contrite heart!
O joy of all the meek,
to those who fall, how kind thou art!
How good to those who seek!
4
But what to those who find? Ah, this
nor tongue nor pen can show;
the love of Jesus, what it is,
none but his loved ones know.
5
Jesus, our only joy be thou,
as thou our prize wilt be;
Jesus, be thou our glory now,
and through eternity.

As a child, at the tender age of eight,coming into the SDA Church, on the heals of a broken heart as my parents divorced. Oh the joys I found in their hymn, the words the way the congregation sound as our voices blended together, singing to this new King of Kings in my families life as well as my Church families life, there was one goal, one place and one love that we had, for one another, for God and for mankind, I love this song it gave me for and peace then and still does to this day♥️
Thank you!
Hi Shavon. It’s interesting that I also joined SDA when my parents had just divorced. Since then I have learned so many hymns and how to play them on a number of instruments. I am nowadays a church pianist too!
My parents divorced because my mom chose to join the church, and my father didn’t like the new reality at all. I was 10, and this was a few decades ago. My father eventually died of cancer due to smoking and drinking, while my mom, despite living with MS for about 20 years now, is still going strong. What’s even more surprising is that she’s getting married in a few months to a lovely, good-hearted Adventist. She’s recovering from MS thanks to her happiness – her speech is improving, and she’s so hopeful.
But I don’t know this song at all, lol. My friend asked me if I could prepare a playback file for it, and this is the first place I visit when I need to have a quick listen.
