      The hymn was written by Anna Bartlett Warner – however, they have edited out the third and fourth verses, and the substutue does NOT represent what she wrote!

    This hymn needs to conform more to what Anna Bartlett Warner actually wrote, while avoiding any doctrinal aberrations. Methinks the compilers should have followed the text of the 1952 New Advent Hymnal. This how it goes, viz.
    v.3
    Jesus loves me! loves me still
    when I’m very weak and ill;
    from his shining throne on high
    ever watches where I lie.
    Refrain: Yes, Jesus loves me; et al.
    v.4
    Jesus loves me! He will stay
    close beside me all the way;
    if I love him, by and by
    he will take me home on high.
    Refrain: Yes, Jesus loves me et al.

    What have they done to Anna Bartlett Warner’s hymn??? She NEVER wrote the third verse as you have it there, in fact it had four verses.
    3rd verse:-
    Jesus loves me, loves me still

      Well it’s just as you said, that version is from the 1952 hymnal. This is the version that I personally grew up singing. The song has changed in the last 60+ years
