wow, almost every stanza is off compared to the actual hymnal — what version is this??
FYI, this is from the Hymnal: 1) Angels we have heard on high
Singing sweetly thru the night,
And the mountains in reply,
Echoing their brave delight:
2) Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why these songs of happy cheer?

What glad tidings did you hear?
3) [the only one that isn't too badly off]: Come to Bethlehem and see

I don’t understand what you are saying here what is the original lyrics of the song? because I looked it up and it sounds pretty legit to me. word by word even in French.

The traditional and more common lyrics are the ones listed on this website. I’m not really sure why the hymnal chose to use the less common version of the carol when they printed this hymnal in ’85.
