I know..but when we read the words and realize what they’re really saying..we can give any Melody we feel is perfect or choose a tune from songs like “Keep the Sabbath holy”. What do you think ViLas. May God continue to bless you.
Hi ViLas, hope you’ve had a wonderful day. I just realized also, there’s music at the top of this page. If it doesn’t come up for you, try typing on website for lyrics and music for hymn 052-Now the day is over. Ok. Be continuously blessed.
I used to share the ambiance of this beautiful
hymn on Sunday evening with a small
group of devotees. It was the last hymn we would sing at our evening service where we would just sing hymns together. We would
unanimously choose this hymn to sing before
we departed. I was just 13. I was with that
group for just one year; I wished it would
last forever. The feeling of deep
reverence that I experienced with that small
group of people was amazing. As we finished
singing the last line of the hymn we were in
“heaven on earth”. I would experience great
peace with gratitude as all the voices sang their parts for this gorgeous hymn.
I still remember how soothing
this hymn was, especially with
the deep base voices.
Whenever I left,
the hymn with the music would stay with me.
Tonight, I remembered the first line of this
hymn and couldn’t find it in a different hymn
book that I had saved from a Methodist Church
so I found this on the internet. As I recall, it
had several more eloquent verses and the music
that went with it was perfectly matched with
each word of the hymn (that was part of the appeal). I wished that group had never ended.
I have written down some of these words and
I hope to find the other verses (possibly in a
Presbyterian hymn book?). I still remember
the beautiful melody. It was good enough
for my “nightcap” tonight. The blessing of this hymn is still with me tonight; It must have been written by a saint. Martha Must Dowis, 77 yrs
P.S. I don’t remember any mention of “angels with white wings round my bed”, but I do
still think it had some more meaningful verses.
It's only lyrics but no music to sing along.
