I asked, as on<br \/>\nI bent my steps-the watchman spake:<br \/>\n&#8220;the long, dark night is almost gone,<br \/>\nThe morning soon will break.<br \/>\nThen weep no more, but speed thy flight,<br \/>\nWith Hope&#8217;s bright star guiding ray,<br \/>\nTill thou shalt reach the realms of light,<br \/>\nIn everlasting days.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>2<br \/>\nI asked the warrior on the field;<br \/>\nThis was his soul-inspiring song:<br \/>\n&#8220;With courage, bold, the sword I&#8217;ll wield,<br \/>\nThe battle is not long.<br \/>\nThen weep no more, but well endure<br \/>\nThe conflict, till thy work is done;<br \/>\nFor this we know, the prize is sure,<br \/>\nWhen victory is won.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>3<br \/>\nI asked again; earth, sea, and sun<br \/>\nSeemed, with one voice, to make reply:<br \/>\n&#8220;Time&#8217;s wasting sands are nearly run,<br \/>\nEternity is nigh.<br \/>\nThen weep no more-with warning tones,<br \/>\nPortentous signs are thickening round,<br \/>\nThe whole creation, waiting, groans,<br \/>\nTo hear the trumpet sound.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>4<br \/>\nNot far from home!
